Yoga
My personal approach to a broad philosophy is to only take on the responsibility and role of teaching you how to navigate your own breath and body, as there is no ‘one size fits all’ application to this practice. I do not believe in the imposition of my interpretation of yoga onto my students. For some of us our intention is to cultivate a higher sense of awareness throughout the layers of the Self, for others it is a safe anatomical/alignment based practice that can aid in a number of preventable and reversible physical ailments. When I work with my students it is based on your curiosity and interest in whatever suits you, I am a listener before I am a guide.
Mobility
Every body, though they are comprised of the same materials and general framework of skeletal structure and soft tissue, is subject to completely different experiences. Bodies are form and function and so what works for one body (ex. heavy dead lifting or yin style yoga practice) might not be what you are interested in, what your body is prepared for and you require some preparation to get to whatever your potential physical goals might be. The practice is to learn about the mobility you have, and implement movements to support and further the ranges of motion available to you so you can explore all of the options for physicality with more understanding of how your body works and what you love to do with it! Mobility is an overall determining factor in the spectrum of human health, if you don’t use it, you lose it.
Mobility for Jiu Jitsu
As a dedicated practitioner, I have learned through experience, trial and error, the importance and absolute necessity for prehab to avoid rehab. Inevitably, choosing a full contact martial art comes with some bang ups, which can most often heal with attention to detail, but the unpredictable movement with another body can unfortunately cause serious damage over time. Wether you are casual or competitive, mobility and preventative measures are non-negotiable. Consider whole body mobility as fundamental a skill as protecting your neck…you know what I mean.
Meditation /
Yoga Nidra
This is deeply personal. I guide in a way that is non-denominational and indisciminate, making this practice accessible and safe for every level of understanding and curiosity. Meditation itself doesn’t have to be a glamorized seat, it can also be translated into things you are already doing in your day to day life as well as become a more intentional or intimate time to create a sense of ease in your world. This is a deeper discussion we share in to develop what will work for you.
Yoga Nidra is a guided meditation that in essence, down regulates the body so we can regulate the deeper mental and emotional bodies. I have free recorded practices available which can give you a glimpse into how it works before we begin to work on a personalized recorded script for you.
